What Is Shrinkflation?

Shrinkflation started during the COVID-19 pandemic when producers began to shrink the size of items while still charging the same price or more.

You noticed because everyone noticed that your usual bag of chips had fewer ounces, and prices have skyrocketed.

From 2020 through today, food prices have increased by 25%, and most people struggle to put food on the table.

What Are Shrinkage Costs?

Shrinkage Costs are the pretty term for losing items to shoplifting. We, as consumers, pay for shoplifting costs, not the store.

It takes its toll on the cost of goods in a store. Whether it is nail polish, a rug, food, or any other item stolen from a store, these companies pass the costs on to those of us who are honest and aren't stealing.

This is the perfect storm of trouble for most families. People who steal drive up our prices, and it's a shame.

Shoplifting Is Stealing

Whether we call it shoplifting or shrinkage, it's stealing. According to a LendingTree survey, people steal because of inflation and the economy.
