Louisiana Senate Votes to End Inspection Stickers 27-7
LOUISIANA - For years Louisiana lawmakers have aimed to eliminate inspection stickers for drivers. After a few swings and misses, it appears it has finally happened.
In a landslide vote of 27 to 7, the Louisiana Senate has now officially done away with inspection stickers.
So, what do we do now? Here's how everything will work for Louisiana drivers moving forward...
Louisiana Eliminates Inspection Stickers
The Louisiana Senate has just passed a bill introduced by State Rep Larry Bagley to discontinue inspection stickers in The Bayou State.

The newly passed bill is now on it's way Governor Jeff Landry's office where he will sign into law. This change will officially go into effect on January 1, 2027.
Do I Need To Get A New Inspection Sticker?
If you're current inspection sticker is already out of date or soon will be, you are required to maintain a valid sticker through the end of 2026. Beginning January 1, 2027, Louisiana will stop issuing new inspection stickers for personal vehicles, and Louisiana law enforcement will also stop ticketing drivers for expired safety stickers, except in those specific parishes still requiring federal emissions testing.
Louisiana Drivers Will Likely Get A QR Code Instead
Under the new system beginning January 1, 2027, drivers will receive a QR-code style sticker tied to their vehicle's registration. Police will be able to scan this to instantly get information about vehicle registration, VIN information, and possibly insurance information in the future.
The QR code will reportedly come with your vehicle registration paperwork instead of requiring a separate inspection appointment.

Eliminating inspection stickers for vehicles in Louisiana doesn't mean you don't have to still maintain your vehicle for safety. You will still be able to be pulled over and ticketed for things like broken tail lights, illegal window tint, expired registration, and other safety violations.
Some Louisiana Parishes Will Still Require Emissions Testing
Drivers in certain parishes will continue emissions testing because of federal environmental rules. These Parishes include -
East Baton Rouge
West Baton Rouge
Livingston
Iberville
Ascension
So, for these Parishes, part of the inspection process will still exist.
The Fee Isn’t Really Going Away
While the elimination of inspection stickers in Louisiana will definitely save us all some time, it's not really going to save any us money.
According to WAFB.com, Louisiana lawmakers are replacing the inspection sticker revenue with a smaller fee tied to vehicle registration. Most proposals mention about a $6 fee instead of the current $10 inspection cost.
