Man Exits Truck to Secure Potential Road Hazard in Lafayette
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - A passenger in a truck in Lafayette exited the vehicle he was in to remove a potential road hazard, and this man may have saved you from having a really bad day.
As I was heading home from work on Thursday, October 8th, my wife called me and asked if I could pick up a few things that we needed at Sam's Wholesale, and I did.
Of course, as I walked through the store in Lafayette, I spent more than I intended, but that's another story for another day.
I wasn't in the store long, but I wanted to get home quickly for lunch before I had to do car rider duties in the afternoon, and when the traffic signal at Ambassador Caffery and Westmark turned red, I knew it would delay me a few minutes.
While I sat there, thinking about where I would be if I had made it through the light before it turned red, I saw a middle-aged man exit the truck. At first, I thought he was going to the vehicle nearby to alert the driver to something, but then I saw him bend over and pick something up from the road.
By then, I'd forgotten about my commute, and being behind the truck, I was intrigued to see what he picked up. As he was about to get into the truck, he lifted the small object, and I could see he'd picked up what looked like a large screw from the road.
Apparently, the man in the passenger seat looked down at the red light and saw the screw on the road. If you travel enough roads in Lafayette and Acadiana, you know the roads here are littered with debris that can cause flats or tire damage.

This man saved someone from a flat tire, or even a tire replacement, depending on where that screw could have ended up.
I highly doubt this man did what he did for praise, but I want to thank him for getting out of his vehicle and removing a potential hazard from the road in Lafayette. Like some of you, I've had screws and nails end up in my tires, and that's enough to ruin a day.
In Scouting, we were always taught to do a good deed each day, even if no one witnessed it, and this gentleman certainly did his good deed for the day, and I was fortunate enough to witness it.
To that gentleman, thank you.
