Lafayette News Station Brings Back ‘Color The Weather’ Contest
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - If you grew up in the 80s, you may remember KLFY TV 10's contest called "Color The Weather." Well, it's back.
As kids, we would get our blank weather page from McDonald's, then color the weather and mail it to the station in Lafayette.
I vividly recall grabbing a blank sheet at McDonald's as a kid and pleading with my parents to drop it off at the post office, hoping to see my drawing on the news on television. Well, I can report here that I never won, but your child may be able to see their work and name on television.
I recently had the local news on, and as I walked past the television, I stopped when I heard Meteorologist Heath Morton announce a "Color The Weather" winner. Suddenly, I was a kid again, and I think that it is excellent that KLFY has brought back a contest many of us grew up with.
Now, in the digital age, you don't have to rush to a location to retrieve a blank copy to submit to the news station. If your kid wants to "Color The Weather," visit the KLFY Weather page to download the blank page.
The premise of this contest remains unchanged: let your child color the weather with rain or sun, and submit the photo. Now, we would not suggest letting your child depict tornadoes, but lightning, rain, and hail are very accurate for this area.
Since I didn't win as a kid, I might still give this a try to relive some of my childhood memories. To see submissions sent to KLFY NEWS 10, click HERE.
Too cute.
After a quick search online, I was able to find this bit of nostalgia from the 80s. This is what the original "Color The Weather" looked like when I was a kid growing up in Acadiana.
