(99.9 KTDY) - After another hot and steamy summer for Louisiana, everyone is looking forward to fall's cooling refreshment, and the Old Farmer's Almanac has a preview of what we can expect.

The Old Farmer's Almanac is a trusted resource that gardeners have used for decades to plan their gardens. The charts in the book serve as a tool to determine the first frost date, expected rainfall, and sunrise and sunset times.

There is a whole host of information contained in their book and online. Additionally, there is an Old Farmer's Almanac Store online, where you can find beloved items.

How Do You Celebrate Fall?

Many people hit the roads when the seasons change, eager to take it all in.

The Louisiana Press Journal has a fantastic video of how things really do change for fall in Louisiana:

Fall in Louisiana also means people are getting out their first jackets, sitting on the sofa or in the oversized recliner watching football, and breaking out the big Magnalite pot to make MawMaw's gumbo.

When you ask listeners from Lafayette, Church Point, Rayne, or any part in between in Acadiana about what makes them think of fall, always in the top three is people expressing how much they love being able to open up the windows to let in the cooler air.

For other people, they start to feel fall vibes when the leaves start changing. We have plenty of evergreen trees in Louisiana, but we are lucky to be home to other trees that start changing color around the first week in October, according to the 2025 Smoky Mountains Fall Foliage Map.

What's The Old Farmer's Almanac Predicting For Temperatures

The weather prediction? Although we are experiencing some temperatures in the 60s, the Old Farmer's Almanac predicts a warmer-than-usual fall.

While we will experience some of the cooling breezes in the 60s, for the long haul, it's going to be a bit warmer and drier this year.

Here's the summary of the forecast for us in the Deep South:

September and October will be warmer than normal, with below-normal rainfall in the north and near-normal amounts in the south. September: Avg. temp 79° (2° above normal); 3.5” rain (1” below normal). Hot and sunny early, followed by scattered thunderstorms mid-month, then cooler with sunshine to end. October: Avg. temp 65° (1° below normal); 2.5” rain (drier north, wetter south). Warm and sunny early and late in the month, with some storms and showers mid-month.

Fall Is A Time To Celebrate! Happy Fall, Y'all!

We will be so lucky when we finally get cooler temperatures, because people are much happier in cooler temperatures. We go outside more. People are more pleasant and kind.

There's even research, for years, proving how disgruntled and miserable we are during the blazing months of summer in Louisiana and other parts of the country.

What People Say They Plan To Do With The First Fall Breeze

It's a question we often ask people as we enter the month of August.

In one post, people gave the following ideas of what they plan to do:

  • Make A Gumbo
  • Open The Windows
  • Enjoy All Things Pumpkin Spice
  • Using The Firepit
  • Just Going Outside
  • Have Coffee On The Patio
  • Nakedness!
